Bob Evanosky celebrates with Christopher and John after the 2008 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is over, but please consider running for The Evanosky Foundation in 2010!  You can start training now for next year's marathon, which will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2010 (Columbus Day weekend).  Keep in mind that registration for this event--which is one of the Top 5 marathons in the world--typically sells out in April, so prepare to sign up early in 2010 when registration opens!  If you choose to run for The Evanosky Foundation, please send an e-mail to evanoskyfoundation@evanoskyfoundation.org and let us know!

When registering online, on the main registration page, choose "The Evanosky Foundation" (alphabetized under "T" for "The") from the drop-down menu associated with the question, "I have already contacted an affiliated charity and am raising money for:"  This is the SECOND question in the charitable cause section -- we are not listed in the drop-down listed in the drop down listing under the first question.

Over the past several years, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon has been a significant fundraiser for the Foundation:

  • In 2005, the first year we participated, runners Mike DuVall and Mark Matsuo raised nearly $15,000, with the proceeds used for the Duke Laptop Project.
  • In 2006, The Evanosky Foundation was accepted as an associated charity of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and we raised over $20,000.
  • Our Team Evanosky runners nearly doubled our previous efforts in 2007 and raised over $38,000!
  • In 2008, we also had runners in the Chicago Distance Classic Half Marathon, and both teams raised a combined $20,000 to benefit The Evanosky Foundation's programs.
  • In 2009, Team Evanosky runners raised $25,000, with proceeds primarily benefitting The House of Hope program

  • You will be assigned a MLD Hero, who is a child currently battling MLD.  In most cases, you will be able to correspond with your child's family and/or follow their progress on the Internet.  Some runners have made a special effort to visit their Hero and both they and the families have found it very rewarding.
  • Beginning in June, you will receive weekly training e-mails that will include a training schedule as well as timely training advice from seasoned marathoners.
  • Prior to race day, you will receive an Evanosky Foundation technical shirt.
  • We will send you a fundraising packet, including a fundraising plan, donation tracker, sample e-mails and letters that you can use for ideas to develop your fundraising communications, and a personalized fundraising flier.
  • We will provide a link for you to send to your donors so that they can make online donations on your behalf.  Donations can also be accepted by check.  Each donation is tax deductible and each donor will receive a thank you letter and receipt from The Evanosky Foundation.
