For the third year in a row, The Evanosky Foundation has once again been named an Associate Charity for the 2008 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and we would love to have you on our team!

This year, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008.  Registration for the marathon is now open, but you need to register soon, since this is a very popular marathon and due to high demand, registration usually closes in April or May

Holly Rodgers & Bob Evanosky in the 2007 Chicago MarathonLast year, 23 runners ran to support The Evanosky Foundation, and several runners ran their first marathon.  We raised over $38,000--which was nearly double the amount raised in 2006!  The funds raised directly supported MLD research.  We would love to have you be part of this great effort in 2008!

When you join our team, we ask you to raise $500 for the Foundation.  That may sound like a lot, but in our experience, most runners can easily raise this.  We will help you with fundraising packets and support on our website so that you can easily collect donations online!

Bob Evanosky the day before the 2007 marathonIf you're wondering how you can ever run a marathon, we have had some great success stories on our team.  A friend of ours, Will, was unable to run a full mile last year when he started training.  He suffered from asthma and also developed plantar fascitis in his feet.  But Will persevered and was able to run a full marathon in October!  Will was a great inspiration to our team, and several other first time marathoners also were able to accomplish their personal goals of running a marathon.  You will know that not only are you running for kids who cannot run, but you are making a difference for future children.  To help you reach your goals,  we will send you encouraging training e-mails with details for a successful marathon training program.  We will also organize training runs for those of you in the Chicago area!

We would love to have you on our team!  If you have any questions about the marathon or joining Team Evanosky, please give us a call at 630-236-8039 or send us an e-mail!

  • You will be assigned an MLD Hero, who is a child currently battling MLD.  In most cases, you will be able to correspond with your child's family and/or follow their progress on a website.  Some runners have made a special effort to visit their Hero and both they and the families have found it very rewarding.  Please click here for a link to see The Evanosky Foundation's 2007 MLD Heroes.
  • Beginning in June, you will receive weekly training e-mails that will include a training schedule as well as timely training advice from seasoned marathoners
  • Prior to race day, you will receive an Evanosky Foundation running shirt and hat
  • You will have the opportunity to join Team Evanosky group runs in the Chicago area
  • We will send you a fundraising packet, including a fundraising plan, donation tracker, sample e-mails and letters that you can use for ideas to develop your fundraising communications, and a personalized fundraising flyer
  • We will provide a link for you to send to your donors so that they can make online donations on your behalf.  Donations can also be accepted by check.  Each donation is tax-deductible and each donor will receive a thank you letter and receipt from The Evanosky Foundation.
